The party begins Friday night with a bachata dance intensive with Francisco Junior and Kathy Reyes, followed by an evening of dancing with live music from Somos El Son. The evening also features a Jack & Jill competition where competitors are paired off with a random partner and compete in social dancing.
Day 2 of the Dance Showcase features workshops with world-class instructors starting at 10am. The instructor list includes dancers such as Luis Aguilar, Isidro Corona, John Narvaez, and Junior & Emily. The evening features a performance showcase from the Bay Area’s top dancers and dancing to the live music of Montuno Swing.
The event is organized by Afinkao Dance Company, one of the longest running salsa and Afro-Latin dance companies in the Bay Area. The team is most well known for their unique choreography and for their monthly Latin Fever Fridays social held at the Beat in Berkley. The team is made up of working professionals from Silicon Valley who strive to create a sense of community and bring something unique and fun to the salsa community.
The team has traveled and performed around the world, including events in Hong Kong, Puerto Rico, New York, Las Vegas, Oregon, and Houston. The name of their group comes from the Puerto Rican word “afincao” which is used to describe the quality of performance between the music and the dancers.
Tickets for the Dance Showcase are available online. Visit the Afinkao 10th Anniversary Dance Showcase page to find out more about the event and to purchase tickets.
