There are very few places that have salsa events on Sunday evenings, so Clarion Salsa Sundays (held in the Clarion Hotel in downtown San Jose) is a great place to go to unwind and dance salsa before the work week begins.
The event usually draws a small but fun crowd, and the atmosphere is very chill and relaxed. The full bar and nice dance floor don't hurt either. At just $5 it's a great deal, and the perfect place to go dancing, especially if you live in the South Bay and don't feel like driving up to Allegros or Impala.

At just $5 this is a nice little spot to hit up for a low key Sunday night in the South Bay. The music is hit or miss (mostly miss for me) and the MC seems hell bent on doing a raffle right in the middle of the night which absolutely kills the mood, takes entirely too long, and pretty much puts everyone to sleep.

I went for the first time tonight. I waited a few hours before the lessons started at about 8p.m. I was getting discouraged because the start time is wrong on the hotels webage. It says 6pm. still the only person there. I was about ready to leave when the instructor approached me again and offered to start with just me. To my surprise and delight I received private lessons from two of the most excellent, personable, experienced Salsa Instructors in the bay. I also got some private lessons from the D.J. who is also an experienced Salsa dancer. I only paid $5.00 for all that. (no joke) So the moral of this story is to never get discouraged when you have great music, a great bartender, a huge dance floor and no crowd. You might wind up getting private salsa lessons and a free pass to come back with a friend. My feet were so sore by the time I left but I learned so many great tips to improving my steps. I cannot wait to come back. Next time I AM actually hoping I am the only one there. lol
The Clarion is a classy place with a nicely sized dance floor, a sizable bar, and is a smaller event but still has a nice mix of dancers. A good DJ and a large restaurant/lounge area makes this a relaxed and atmospheric place to spend a fun evening. There is plenty of parking, a cheap cover charge of $5.00, and a nice outdoor patio area to take a break from dancing. Definitely would recommend this place for a fun and relaxed way to end a Sunday evening.
If you’re one who can’t get enough salsa during the week, you have to check out the Clarion on Sunday nights. Dancers of all levels in the south bay go to hang out. They close around midnight so get there early!
